If you didn’t know already: IE does not display this site correctly, due to web standards. Most importantly IE is susceptible to viruses, and spyware; due to Microsoft’s inability to patch it’s own browser in a timely manner. So I highly recommend, a safe, more standards compliant browser such as Mozilla Firefox.

I ran 2 miles this morning…

So, I’ve been trying to get back into shape lately. The winter, specifically the early sunsets and the super cold mornings, has gotten me lazy. I’ve gained as much as 10 pounds since my triathlon in September! I feel FAT!

It’s kinda sad. I used to be able to crank out 4 mile runs without any effort. Now, I am struggling to go 1 mile without stopping. :( One thing I’ve noticed lately is, warming up really matters! If I don’t warm up, I’d have to stop a lot more to walk.

I started running a few weeks back. I started out with just 3 miles a week. I know, I know, 3 in ONE WEEK is pretty pathetic, but it’s a start. I want to make sure I don’t get any injuries from increasing mileage too quickly. I am getting heel pains now though. Hopfully with more stretching, it will go away. Anyway, I am up to 5 miles a week now and my body feels a lot better.

Check back here to see my progress (if any)… :)

what do you do for warmups?

A little bit of stretching and basically don’t go start running full speed right away. Start off walking, transition to a slow jog, then go full speed.

I’ve been reading that cooldowns are good to… helps get waste products flushed through system. So instead of just running and stopping, it’s good to walk a bit at the end. I’ve tried this (walking after running) and it really seems to help in recovery.

I’m getting these insoles… I’ll blog about how they work but they’re supposed to cushion your feet while running. They recommended the regulars for running and the ultras for combat boots, hiking boots, etc. I found this off of www.ultramarathonman.com (Dean says they’re good).

For cool downs, I usually walk until my HR comes back down to the 130s…
