Receipt from Ikea..

Originally uploaded by elyliu.

I haven’t posted in a couple days. Well…because nothing interesting happened. I wouldn’t want to bore my devoted readers to waste their time with “Today I woke up, brush my teeth, and took a shower. Then I had breakfast…”

Anyway, so this weekend was supposed to be Ikea’s 20th birthday. To celebrate, they had a 15% off sale. So my parents went to Ikea today and came back with a $11,000 bill! ELEVEN THOUSAND! MAN, THEY ARE CRAZY! They did save about $2000 though…

Good news…less than a day before I go on vacation! VEGAS HERE I COME (again)! Oh, and I probably won’t be blogging or flickring for the next couple days. A little break from blogs and flickrs should be good for me.

Bad news…have to get up early tomorrow. :( There’s an early meeting. I still need to pack. And there are still a couple things I need to take care of at work before I leave.

Other news…I did 33 miles on my bike today! WOOO.

Oh, one more bad news…I think I am getting sick.

THAT’S ALL PEOPLES! Farewell til next week…

New feature on Flickr!!!

October 27th, 2005

If you have not heard, flickr is finally offering prints! First you have to set up your preferences. There are other options provided by third parties as well. Currently, with the third party stuff you can make posters, books, CD/DVD, and stamps with yours (or other people’s) flickr photos. This is EXCITING news for flickr geeks! :)

Training day…

October 24th, 2005

Today marks the first of 8 days that I will be out of the office in the next 2 weeks. :) It’s nice to get out of the office for a while. I believe this will be the longest break I have from the office since I started.

I was close to 1 hour late to class today. I figured 1 hour would be enough to get from Cerritos to Santa Monica (32 miles). I was wrong. Very wrong. Fortunately, I didn’t miss much. The instructor was late as well and the first half of the class was pretty slow. I caught up even after being 1 hour late AND having to download the trial version of Flash since they didn’t have a computer for me.

The second half of the class was more informative (less sleep enducing). And my iBook lasted all but 30 minutes of class without a charger! Kudos to Apple.

After class, I had a couple hours to kill before my basketball game at Culver City, so I hit up Barnes & Nobles across the street.

Hmmm, what else… o ya… we lost tonight :( . We ended our 5 game winning streak. The other team tied with us for second place. Now they broke that tie, and we are now in third. :(

Ok, I am tired of writing now. Toodles

Buzy weekend…

Wear your gloves while biking…

Originally uploaded by elyliu.

I didn’t go on any big trips this weekend, but I was pretty buzy this weekend.

I was out pretty late Friday night, so I didn’t get up til closer to noon. Went online for a bit, ate lunch, watched couple episodes of LOST (finally on season 2, BTW). Napped a bit more, read a bit, and before I knew it, it was time to get ready for Brian’s “Good bye summer” party.

Brian’s party was a nice chillin party. There was good food. The cookies were great! And we had a nice lil ping pong tornament going on. :) If you are reading this Brian, thanks!

Sunday morning, me and my other buddy Brian went biking. I had some tire problem early on. I couldn’t get air into my tire. So I decided to put in a new tube. This is actually the first time I’ve ever had to change a tire on my bike. The Specialized Armadillo tires definitely worked as advertised. However, the tire levers on my multi-tool were not very useful at all. All the tools on there made it hard to get a good grip (expecially when there’s a knife on there). With Brian’s real tire levers, we were finally able to change the tire. While we were messing around with my bike, I raised my seat up 1.5″ as well. Wow, what a HUGE difference it made!

After 1 hr of delay, we were finally on our way. We biked on the river bed for a total of 24 miles. It’s a pretty flat 24 miles. On the bike path, there are many dark underpasses that we have to pass through. Brian took a pretty nasty spil through one of them and he didn’t have gloves on. See the results for yourself above…

By the time I got home it was 1:15pm already and I had a hair appointment at 2! I showered and rushed out. There was no time for food. After the hair cut, I did a little shopping since I was at the mall anyway. Then I finally had lunch at 4.

Ok, I think I am blabbing again. :)

I do want to make some comments on the Lakers still. I finally caught a COMPLETE game. After Brian (De Boer) gave me a guilt trip about being a Lakers fan and not watching any of their games, I had to watch a complete game. :) Lakers looked good, I thought. Kobe was his usual awsome self. Odom looked good being the point forward. I like how he can go coast to coast after a rebound. Kwame looked good as well. He’s quite explosive for a 7 footer.

Ok, that seems like a pretty long post. I’ll end it here. Good night.

Thoreau, ” A man’s riches are based on what he can do without.”

Power…

October 22nd, 2005

Something I read in my “Ten Day MBA” book today…

There are 5 types of power…
Coercive - based on fear
Reward - opposite of coercive
Referent - have charisma to inspire and attract followers
Legitimate - due to formal status
Expert - skill, knowledge, or experience

So that got me thinking. If a leader has NONE of those powers, are they just completely useless as a leader?

Goin-away presents…

October 20th, 2005

Goin-away presents are nice because it makes the people that are leaving feel special and appreciated, but often times we forget about the other beneficiaries of the presents: the shoppers. The shoppers get to go shop with other people’s money. FUN!

Tonight, me and …somebody… went to the Glendale Galleria to shop for …somebody. After a good 3 hrs of walking through the mall, we finally decided on a …thing. (I have to be very vague in case the person we are shopping for actually reads my blog. I doubt it though. NOBODY reads my blog). Although this “thing” is not for me, it was still fun to get to spend $300. :)

Anyway, I am not trying to make it sound like I love it when people leave. I am actually a bit sad. A lot of the people that are leaving are really cool people. They are people that make working less like…working. Hopfully we all KIT and get to hang out again sometime in the future.

Ok, time to catch some Zs now. Ciao.

Shower was $0.25 per 2 minutes.
Sasha was a good girl.
Weekend was awsome.

Friday night traffic

Originally uploaded by elyliu.

This week hasn’t been bad at work, but the weekdays was just didn’t want to end. Just when I thought weekend has started after I left work at 8pm Friday night, I was greeted by a jammed freeway. Why?!?! Why is there TRAFFIC Friday night? WHY! I just don’t get it. Shouldn’t everyone be home already at 8pm Friday night? An hour later, after I got onto the 710, traffic cleared up and my weekend began… What happened next? Let’s just say the rest of trip back home went by fast. ;)

Anyway, enough about the weekday, let’s talk about my weekend. Tomorrow and Sunday I will be on a beach. Not just for a couple hours, I will be on the beach pretty much the entire weekend. Me, Nancy, Wex, and two of Nancy’s friends (Tom and Anna) will be SURFING in the daytime, and camping by the beach at night. HOW EXCITING! Thanks, Nancy, for inviting me.

Ok, I should stop blabbing and go pack up for the trip. Check my flickr Sunday night for pictures from the trip! Ciao!
